In recent weeks, violence has escalated in southern municipalities of Sinaloa state, including Escuinapa, El Rosario, and Mazatlán, due to conflict between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, Los Chapitos and Los Mayitos. Escuinapa, bordering Nayarit and with extensive mountainous areas, has become a battleground for criminal groups. Between July 11–13, five people were injured by shrapnel or gunfire during clashes. One incident involved a chase and shootout near the mayor’s residence, injuring a civilian. Local authorities have set up operations with federal forces to address the violence.
