In the small town of Alvear, located in the province of Corrientes, authorities have charged the girlfriend of the alleged killer of 16-year-old student Cecilia Emilce Lezcano with being a “coauthor” of the crime. The indictment came after 43 days of investigation into the incident, which occurred on July 16. Fiscal Facundo Cabral, leading the case, has formally accused the young woman, who is 17 years old, of playing a key role alongside her boyfriend, a classmate of the victim who was already under arrest. The court hearing took place this Friday in Santo Tomé before Judge Claudia Luco Montero. The charges against the girl stem from evidence obtained through messages exchanged between her and the suspect prior to and following the attack. According to the prosecution, these communications revealed knowledge of the planned act and potential involvement in concealing information. The legal team representing the parents of Cecilia, Raúl and Corintia, argued that the investigation should not be limited to possible incitement. They believe there is enough evidence to classify the girl as a functional coauthor, even though she was not physically present during the crime. The accusations include directing and validating the plan, assessing risks, intervening in the concealment of the body, and participating in a possible simulation of suicide. The prosecution suggests a division of roles between the two suspects, with the boyfriend carrying out the actual killing. The legal representatives of the victims' family submitted a written request seeking preventive detention for the teenager in a special institution for minors in conflict with the law, assigning her a significant role in the homicide. They cited the removal of conversations between the two youths while the victim was still alive as proof of her awareness of the plan and an attempt to hide information. The request included claims that the girl had been actively involved both before and after the murder. According to the documents shared with Clarín, the lawyer emphasized that the findings indicated premeditation, risk assessment, operational validation, and possibly obstruction. Despite the prosecutors' demands, the fiscal surprised the court by requesting that the girl serve her sentence under house arrest. The judge granted this request, prompting the family of Cecilia to announce they will appeal the decision. Meanwhile, the boyfriend of the accused, also 17, continues to serve preventive detention in an institute for minors. Additionally, the judiciary ordered the seizure of the phones of the girl’s parents to determine whether her father, a police officer, attempted to interfere with the investigation. As the investigation continues, authorities are still working to identify a third person who might have received photos and videos of the attack. Investigators are also trying to establish whether this contact corresponds to the “powerful person” mentioned by the suspect shortly after the crime. One month and a half after the incident, the case remains open, with ongoing efforts to uncover all aspects of the tragedy.
