COOCON, a leading business data platform company based in Seoul, South Korea, has announced a strategic expansion into the Model Context Protocol (MCP)-based data business, positioning itself at the forefront of the AI agent revolution. This move comes as the global AI landscape evolves rapidly, with increasing emphasis on autonomous systems capable of interacting with external data and services. By leveraging its extensive experience in data aggregation across sectors such as finance, public administration, logistics, and telecommunications, COOCON aims to become a central hub for AI agents, offering direct access to standardized data formats.
The announcement was made on June 29, with COOCON revealing plans to convert its existing datasets into MCP format, allowing AI agents to integrate and use them without requiring complex manual setups. This initiative aligns with the broader trend of AI agents becoming more prevalent in industries where automation and real-time decision-making are critical. MCP, developed by Anthropic in late 2024, serves as a universal protocol that streamlines how AI agents communicate with external systems, making it a cornerstone of modern AI infrastructure.
As part of its strategy, COOCON intends to launch a "Dedicated AI-Ready Data Zone" on its platform, COOCON.NET, in July. Initially featuring approximately 30 products, the company plans to increase its offerings to over 100 by the end of the year and eventually present its full range by 2027. This approach ensures that both new adopters of AI technology and established clients undergoing digital transformation can benefit from seamless, standardized data access tailored specifically for AI agents.
In addition to enhancing its internal capabilities, COOCON has taken steps to strengthen its role in shaping global AI standards. On June 1, the company joined the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), a consortium comprising over 180 organizations including major players like Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Circle, Tron, and Stripe. Through active participation in the MCP Working Group, COOCON seeks to influence the development of international protocols and solidify its competitive edge in the evolving AI landscape.
The company anticipates that its MCP-based data business will significantly boost its financial performance. As workflows driven by AI agents generate a steady stream of data requests, COOCON is well-positioned to capitalize on increased demand for efficient, scalable solutions. Its dual focus on data and payment services further enhances its value proposition, enabling it to offer integrated AI-ready payment products linked to both local and international financial networks.
CEO Kim Jong-hyun emphasized that the success of the AI era hinges on reliable data access for AI agents. Drawing upon COOCON's two-decade-long expertise in data collection and integration, he expressed confidence in the company's ability to transition from traditional API providers to direct contributors of AI-utilizable data. He highlighted that the MCP-driven data business emerging in the latter half of the year would not only fuel new growth but also act as a foundational element for future innovation and expansion within the global AI agent ecosystem.
