Congress occupied 24 Akbar Road headquarters without authorisation since 2013: RTI

According to an RTI reply obtained by India Today, the Indian National Congress has been occupying its former headquarters at 24 Akbar Road in New Delhi without authorization since June 26, 2013. The Directorate of Estates, under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, stated that the bungalow was originally allocated to the Congress in 1992 but the allotment was canceled in 2013. Despite this, the party has continued to occupy the property without paying rent, and the government has not collected any rent since then. The outstanding dues are currently under review. The RTI response also mentioned that the government does not maintain compiled records of notices issued to the Congress to vacate the premises. Additionally, the report highlighted that the BJP’s former headquarters at 11 Ashoka Road is now part of the Lok Sabha Members’ Pool, and inquiries about rent payments there have been forwarded to the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
