HKChinese archaeologists are set to conduct their first collaborative field project in South America, focusing on ancient sites in Peru that date back thousands of years. The initiative involves a partnership between the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Peruvian institutions, including the Caral Archaeological Zone and the Professional School of Archaeology at the National University of San Marcos. The collaboration aims to explore the Caral civilization, which is considered the oldest known civilization in the Americas, flourishing between 3000 BC and 1800 BC along the Peruvian coast. Activities will include training, field surveys, joint excavations, and preservation efforts.
