China approves string of ‘telepathy’ devices amid push to leapfrog Elon Musk

China's health regulators have approved several brain-technology products this year, marking a significant step in the nation's efforts to establish itself as a leader in brain-computer interface (BCI) innovation. This device features a cap equipped with electrodes that measure electrical signals emitted by the brain, enabling healthcare professionals to evaluate potential impairments in cognitive function. According to the company’s official WeChat feed, the device was approved by the NMPA on August 19. The technology allows for non-invasive monitoring of neural activity, potentially aiding in the early detection of conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and schizophrenia. Tiankai Suishi also offers other BCI devices aimed at identifying early signs of cognitive dysfunction. The company is currently pursuing regulatory approval for a new product focused on diagnosing depression, further expanding its portfolio in the field. Founded in 2023, Tiankai Suishi has secured a registered capital of 10.67 million yuan (approximately US$1.59 million). The company is led by Gu Bin, who holds a doctoral degree from Tianjin University’s medical school, as reported by Chinese media. His academic background underscores the firm’s commitment to scientific rigor and technological advancement.
