The search for a new investor for the insolvent Leuna Polyamid GmbH has failed, leaving the chemical plant at risk of permanent closure. The company's managing director stated that no binding offer from an investor has been received, and production will continue until the end of September before being shut down internally over a period of 15–20 days. The facility employs around 400 workers and produces plastics and fertilizers. Leuna Polyamid took over the plant in April after the previous operator, Domo Caproleuna, filed for insolvency at the end of 2025. Rising raw material prices, particularly in the Gulf region, and supplier prepayment demands have severely strained liquidity. The state of Saxony-Anhalt funded emergency operations at the plant for approximately 79.5 million euros, though only a fraction is expected to be repaid. Prosecutors in Halle have been investigating three former managers of Domo Caproleuna since May 2026 for suspected insolvency fraud.
