The child allowance, which has been a topic of discussion among parents and families, is set to arrive on bank accounts in the coming days. This payment, which is expected to provide relief during the upcoming school year, will be deposited into accounts starting the week after August 13, 2026. It marks the beginning of a new school year, with many parents preparing for the purchase of school supplies, clothing, and other necessary items for their children. The child allowance will be distributed on Thursday, August 13, 2026. According to the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, the payment must be made no later than the 15th day of each month for the previous month. The amount of the child allowance varies depending on the family’s income bracket and the number of children eligible for the benefit. For families with multiple children, the total sum is calculated by adding individual amounts for each child. For children under the age of 18 or attending secondary school, the highest monthly child allowance ranges from 25.70 euros to 177.24 euros. For older students who are still below 18 years old, the minimum amount increases slightly to 29.57 euros. Single-parent households are entitled to a 30 percent increase in the child allowance, provided they meet certain legal conditions. A single-parent household can also include situations where one parent lives with their child or children, especially when the child is placed under the care and upbringing of one parent, and the conditions for financial support or replacement of maintenance are met. Eligibility for the child allowance extends to parents or other individuals caring for children residing in Slovenia, provided all legal requirements are fulfilled. The right to claim the allowance can be exercised through the appropriate social work center. The increased allowance applies to applications submitted after June 1, 2026, or to rights granted from July 1, 2026 onwards.
