On July 10, Marine Tondelier, a national secretary of the Ecologists party in France, posted on X (formerly Twitter) a self-taken photo of herself sitting on her suitcase inside a crowded and overheated regional train (TER), criticizing Laurent Wauquiez, former president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, over the condition of the trains in his region. The image quickly sparked debate online, with some users claiming the photo was taken at Tondelier’s home rather than on a train. One user accused her of misleading followers by using a photo from their bathroom window instead of a train. However, rail expert Wilfried Demaret confirmed the photo was indeed taken on a TER AGC train, citing specific features such as the low window height, blue electrical outlet cover, and gray curtain typical of these trains. Additional photos of the same train model were used to verify the authenticity of the scene. While the train is equipped with air conditioning, Demaret noted that during heatwaves, the system may struggle to maintain comfortable temperatures.
Bias read (Center): The article presents both sides of the controversy—Tondelier’s claim and the initial skepticism from internet users—before providing technical evidence confirming the authenticity of the photo. It does not take a stance on the broader political implications but focuses on verifying the factual basis
