The article reports on a new five-day program called 'Vštekaj se pametno' organized by Center Šteker in Maribor, aimed at preparing children aged 9 to 13 for responsible use of smartphones. The program includes interactive workshops, games, practical exercises, and group discussions focusing on online safety, privacy protection, recognizing cyber threats, digital footprints, critical information evaluation, and responsible behavior on social networks. It also addresses the impact of technology on personal relationships, self-esteem, mental well-being, and proper responses to online dangers. Workshops run from August 10th to 14th at Hostl Pekarna, lasting approximately six hours daily. The pilot program is free and targets a small group of 10 to 15 children. Participants will receive one of three readiness assessments—prepared, almost prepared, or not prepared—with detailed feedback and recommendations for parents. The initiative aims to promote positive aspects of technology while teaching responsible and critical internet usage, with plans to expand nationally.
