Caught on CCTV: Ghaziabad resident trapped, thrashed inside lift over society fund row

A resident of Ghaziabad was violently attacked inside a lift by another resident, according to a CCTV recording that has sparked outrage and debate online. According to the assistant commissioner of police, Priyashree Pal, Chopra, who resides in Tower 8 of GH-7 Society, was in the process of returning home when Kumar joined him in the lift. The confrontation began after Kumar accused Chopra of misusing society funds. Chopra, in turn, claimed Kumar had engaged in corrupt practices. The conflict quickly turned physical, with Kumar launching a sustained assault on Chopra within the confined space of the lift. The incident was recorded by the lift’s CCTV camera and has since circulated widely on social media platforms. The nearly four-minute video captures the unfolding events. It begins with Chopra standing inside the lift, using his mobile phone. A woman enters the lift, followed shortly by Kumar. An argument erupts between the two men, prompting the woman to exit. Kumar is then seen closing the lift doors before turning on Chopra. The footage shows Kumar delivering multiple blows, including punches and kicks, to Chopra while he remains stationary inside the lift. Chopra subsequently filed a formal complaint with the Crossing Republik police station. In response, Kumar was arrested and placed in custody. An FIR has been registered against Kumar under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
