350 years of the parish of Smlednik [PHOTO]

The parish of Smlednik celebrated its 350th anniversary on July 5, a Sunday known as Urh's Day. The parish was established in 1676, and its patron saint, Saint Urh, is believed to be connected to nearby castles and the Smlednik family, with the first known member of this family named Ulrich or Urh. During the celebration, attendees thanked their ancestors for their faith and received gifts, pledging to continue their legacy. A solemn mass was led by Parish Priest David Jensterlet, with blessings provided by Apostolic Nuncio Dr. Mitja Leskovar. A special image depicting the parish's family tree was unveiled, along with a symbolic tree planted in 1990 to commemorate the first democratic elections and independence. The event featured various cultural activities throughout the year, including an exhibition about the patriotic priest Janez Puhar, who invented glass photography. On the day of the celebration, guests viewed a film titled 'Together for 350 Years,' created by the parish priest and animated by Juan Juvančič. The ceremony included the unveiling of a new kneeling prayer shawl, designed with motifs representing the parish's history and symbols, such as fish, nets, and the cross
