Three mobile casino operators fall in Iztapalapa; with threats they demanded undue charges

Three men suspected of operating an illegal gambling operation were arrested by officers from Mexico City’s Secretariat of Public Security (SSC) in the Iztapalapa borough. The arrests took place after surveillance footage from security cameras helped identify a makeshift casino set up in the parking lot of an auto parts store located on Ermita Iztapalapa Avenue in the Santa Isabel Industrial neighborhood. During the operation, police observed several individuals participating in games of chance with purported prizes offered. According to reports, some participants were allegedly threatened to demand improper payments. When law enforcement entered the parking area, several individuals attempted to flee, but three men, aged 32, 37, and 39, were intercepted. They were detained and placed under investigation. Authorities seized two mobile phones, 15 dice boards, nine game cards, and three payment terminals during the raid. Additionally, 21 bags containing possible cocaine, 18 blue wraps believed to contain the same substance, and 21 clear plastic bags suspected of holding marijuana were confiscated. Other items recovered included seven boxes of household appliances and 10 notebooks filled with notes. The suspects were informed of their rights and handed over to the Attorney General's Office for further legal proceedings. The SSC stated that ongoing intelligence and surveillance efforts will continue to target illicit activities within the city. This operation highlights the persistent challenge authorities face in combating organized crime and illegal gambling networks in densely populated areas such as Iztapalapa. The presence of threats against participants underscores the dangerous nature of these operations, which often involve coercion and intimidation.
