Romaeuropa, the capital's international festival, returns, double opening with dance and music

Romaeuropa, the international festival of Rome, returns with its programme blending generations and artistic languages, created as a dialogue spanning more than two months among music, theatre, dance, digital arts and children's creation. The inauguration of the forty-first edition, chaired by Guido Fabiani with general direction and artistic guidance by Fabrizio Grifasi, features a double opening. On September 8 and 9 at Auditorium Conciliazione, the opening takes shape in two evenings, supported by Banca Ifis, dedicated to two Italian artists prominent on the international scene, representing some of the most interesting trajectories of Italian creation worldwide. On September 8, the dance segment opens with Sofia Nappi and her company KOMOCO, followed by Caterina Barbieri, ONCEIM - Orchestra for Creation, Experimentation and Musical Improvisation, and Christian Marclay on September 9. The inaugural week continues at Auditorium Conciliazione with French choreographer Benjamin Millepied presenting his new work Summerland on September 14, within the celebrations marking the seventy years of exclusive twin-city relations between Rome and Paris. This piece, born from collaboration with French singer November Ultra, blends bedroom pop, R&B, folk and electronic music. From September 15 to 17, the festival moves to Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, thanks to collaboration with the Accademy National of Santa Cecilia, featuring three major concerts: Fatoumata Diawara presents her latest album Massa on September 15; on September 16, music meets cinema with the classic Powaqqatsi by Godfrey Reggio and Philip Glass, performed live by the Philip Glass Ensemble in sync with the film’s visuals; finally, on September 17, The Trip To Vega by Jeff Mills and Kety Fusco offers a sci-fi journey through electronic music, harp, spaceships and distant stars. The festival continues for over two months across 18 venues, presenting 100 performances with around 1,000 artists from Italy, Europe and beyond, culminating on November 15 with a day dedicated to music, highlighted by the Classical Rave Party by Enrico Melozzi. This special project starts in the morning with the 100 Cellos founded by Melozzi and Giovanni Sollima, continuing into the night with the Orchestra Notturna Clandestina and a constellation of musicians, artists and guests, including Niccolò Fabi, Alessandro Baricco, Giovanni Sollima, the Italian Army Band with Giuseppe Andaloro, Alessandro Carbonare, Gloria Campaner, Marta Sollima, Miriam Prandi and Carlotta Dalia, along with appearances by Elsa Lila, Anastasio, Fasma and many others. A grand celebration transforming music into a space of connection, energy and sharing, embodying the spirit that has defined Romaeuropa since its forty-one-year history. Roberto Bolle, the renowned dancer, emphasizes the importance of dance and art during challenging times, stating that they serve as vital messages of peace and happiness. His On Dance festival in Milan runs from September 11 to 13, concluding with a march in steps of dancing, replacing the traditional White Ball in Piazza Duoma. Bolle highlights the need for structured television programs focused on dance, expressing hope for future broadcasts. Through his foundation, he aims to engage youth while maintaining his artistic career, including performances of his acclaimed ballets such as Caravaggio and Bolero. He will also participate in the Gala Fracci at La Scala, honoring the memory of the late great ballerina. In 2027, Bolle will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a recognition he describes as deeply meaningful and unexpected.
