A fish worker named Freemon (28) was recovered from the sea after his boat capsized near Muthalapozhi in Thiruvananthapuram district on July 31, 2026. He was among four fishermen aboard the vessel, which sank due to strong currents. His body was found approximately 23 kilometers away from the incident site during a joint search operation involving the Indian Coast Guard, Coastal Police, and the Marine Enforcement Wing. Another fisherman, Shijin (32), remains missing. Meanwhile, two additional fishermen, Antony and John, who were fishing near Vizhinjam coast on the same day are also unaccounted for. Local fishermen and families of the missing staged protests near Anchuthengu, accusing authorities of inadequate search efforts. Transport Minister C.P. John confirmed that aerial searches using the Indian Navy’s Garuda helicopter were conducted on August 1, 2026, and would continue on August 2.
