A local radio station in Slovenia is inviting residents of several communities along a planned cycling route to share unique stories and traditions that are not found in official records or maps. The initiative, part of the 15th anniversary of the "Od Marije k Mariji, od prijatelja k prijatelju" cycling pilgrimage, aims to highlight lesser-known aspects of each village through personal narratives and anecdotes. The journey will take place from September 6 to 8, starting in Bovec and ending in Komna. Radio Ognjišče is seeking contributions from locals who can provide insights into their neighborhoods' cultural heritage, historical events, and daily life. The radio station has outlined specific areas of interest for contributors, including legends, anecdotes, historical occurrences, pilgrim traditions, and distinctive features of their villages. These stories should reflect the lived experiences of the community rather than information found in books or chronicles. Residents of Bovec, Kobarid, Tolmin, Most na Soči, Kanal, Nova Gorica, Šempeter pri Gorici, Miren, Bukovica, Dornberk, Branik, and Komen are encouraged to participate. Submissions can be sent via email or phone call, with audio messages being particularly welcomed due to the nature of the medium. Residents are asked to consider questions such as what visitors should know before arriving, which story they often tell guests about their area, what they are most proud of in their parish, and what would be a shame not to mention. Examples include local sayings, notable sights, family stories, and historical events tied to specific locations. The goal is to uncover hidden treasures within these communities, people, stories, customs, views, or peculiarities that deserve recognition beyond just the physical landscape. The radio station's request comes amid broader discussions about how local knowledge and oral histories contribute to understanding regional identity and culture. By focusing on personal accounts and communal memories, the project seeks to create a more nuanced portrayal of the regions traversed during the cycling pilgrimage.
