The Municipality of Maribor has been working for some time to establish a business incubator aimed at supporting startups, coworking spaces, shared workspaces, research and development areas, mentoring, education, and support for businesses. The project seeks to provide modern entrepreneurial infrastructure for young innovative companies while improving the supportive environment for the creation, growth, and development of startups or early-stage enterprises. According to the plans discussed during the regular city council meeting, the business incubator will be located on Pobreška cesta 20, within the former complex of KPD or prison. The building, a historic structure from the 19th century now partially used for entrepreneurship, technology, and creative industries, will be renovated. The project, estimated at approximately 2.5 million euros including VAT, will begin construction towards the end of this year and is expected to be completed by autumn 2027, with the incubator becoming operational around that time.
