BMKG conducts cloud seeding in Jambi through early September

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) continues its cloud-seeding operations in Jambi Province to combat ongoing forest and land fires, scheduled to last until early September 2026. Representatives of BMKG stated that rain-bearing cloud potential is expected to persist until September 2, 2026, after which cloud activity will decline. Cloud-seeding efforts involve dispersing salt (NaCl) into the atmosphere to induce artificial rainfall. Operations are conducted daily from morning until 9 p.m., with recent activities including two cloud-seeding sorties on August 31, targeting areas such as East Tanjung Jabung and Berbak Sembilang National Park. The task force, working with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), reported that these operations have already triggered moderate to heavy rainfall in several districts. The effort is part of a broader national strategy to address wildfire risks.
