Better pairing: This is the way forward for meta products on the iPhone in the EU

Apple has shared plans with developers regarding improved interoperability between Meta products and its devices like iPhones and iPads within the European Union, driven by the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The initiative aims to allow users to pair Meta hardware—such as the Meta Quest VR headsets and Ray-Ban glasses—with Apple devices and automatically sync across them using Meta’s cloud services. Meta submitted this request in October 2025, prompting Apple to begin an eligibility review. Development at Apple is expected to continue until iOS/iPadOS 27, with implementation likely by early 2027. Apple notes that third-party apps will gain access to cryptographic materials to secure pairing. Meanwhile, Meta has also sought simpler setup options for its apps on Apple devices. Separately, Google is being compelled by the EU to open its Android system to third-party assistants, while Apple is resisting similar changes and has delayed bringing Siri to the EU.
