AI helps to predict heart disease more accurately

Researchers at the University of Bern have developed AI models that can predict the progression of heart diseases more accurately than current systems, according to two international studies published in 'The Lancet Digital Health' and 'JAMA Cardiology'. These models analyze large amounts of existing health data such as lab results, medical records, and imaging to identify patterns that are often invisible to humans. The first study focused on patients with severe aortic valve stenosis who underwent minimally invasive valve replacement surgery, showing a 10–15 percent improvement in long-term prognosis accuracy. The second study examined the rare condition transthyretin amyloidosis, using data from over 850 patients across Swiss centers and the University of Würzburg. The tools are already available for free online and are set for clinical testing next.
