Bengaluru Traffic Police introduce trial diversions at Madiwala to ease peak-hour congestion

Bengaluru Traffic Police have introduced trial traffic diversions near Madiwala to alleviate peak-hour congestion. The measure, effective from August 6, will be in place daily between 8 a.m. and 10.30 a.m., aiming to manage the growing volume of vehicles entering the city from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry through National Highway-44 (NH-44). The initiative follows reports of persistent traffic bottlenecks impacting both private and public transportation, including emergency services such as ambulances. The trial measures involve restricting certain vehicle movements along key routes leading into Madiwala. Vehicles attempting to travel from S.P. Road (Sarjapur Road) Junction toward Madiwala Police Station Junction will be halted at S.P. Road (Sarjapur Road) Junction. Similarly, vehicles arriving from 100 Feet Road via Water Tank Junction and Ayyappa Junction will be stopped at Ayyappa Junction before proceeding further. These restrictions aim to prevent gridlock and ensure smoother flow of traffic during the busiest hours. As an alternative, drivers seeking to access Madiwala Police Station Junction from either direction are directed to follow specific detours. Those starting from S.P. Road (Sarjapur Road) Junction should make a left turn followed by a right turn onto Madiwala Market Road. From there, they must take a left turn onto Hosur Main Road and continue through Water Tank Junction and Krupanidhi to reach their destination. This rerouting strategy is designed to distribute traffic more evenly across the region and reduce pressure on heavily used corridors. The decision to implement these temporary diversions reflects ongoing efforts by local authorities to address long-standing traffic challenges in Bengaluru. The city has faced mounting pressure due to rapid urbanization and increased vehicular population, with NH-44 serving as a major entry point for vehicles from neighboring states.
