Earthquake in Venezuela: Damage estimated at $20 billion

A series of earthquakes in June hit Venezuela, causing estimated immediate property damage of $19.6 billion (around €17.2 billion) according to World Bank estimates. Over half of this amount affected residential buildings, followed by infrastructure and non-residential structures. The most severely impacted areas were La Guaira State and the Capital District. The earthquakes resulted in over 5,000 confirmed deaths, 16,740 injuries, and approximately 18,000 people losing their homes. Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez announced the withdrawal of $346 million from the country’s IMF account to aid reconstruction and support affected families.
