Heras-Casado described the tour as a “historic tour,” highlighting the significance of the ensemble’s international journey. Bayreuth does not have a permanent orchestra. Instead, its members play throughout the year with other renowned institutions and orchestras. They return to Bayreuth primarily for the festival itself, where they participate in the iconic open-air performances. The city serves more as a temporary base for the musicians, who spend their vacations there during the festival period. For this summer tour, the orchestra will present selected excerpts from Richard Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen.” These selections were the original reason behind the establishment of the Bayreuth Festival 150 years ago, specifically to stage Wagner’s four-part cycle. The choice reflects the deep connection between the festival and Wagner’s operatic works, even as the orchestra ventures beyond its usual setting. Among the notable performers joining the ensemble are acclaimed Bayreuth artists. British soprano Catherine Foster will portray Brünnhilde, while German tenor Klaus Florian Vogt will take on the roles of Siegmund and Siegfried. Additionally, Nicholas Brownlee will sing the Wotan parts in the program. Their participation underscores the continued presence of legendary figures associated with the festival, even as the orchestra explores new venues.
