Construction of the Peñón-TexcocoPPeripheric bridge is 21% ahead; it will benefit 2 million people

The construction of the Peñón-Texcoco, Periférico vehicular bridge has reached 21 percent completion one month into the project, according to officials from the State of Mexico’s Secretariat of Mobility (Semov). The bridge, part of the Integral Plan for the Eastern Zone, is being built under the coordination of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez. Supervisory visits have confirmed progress in foundational work, with technicians installing 170 piles at depths ranging from 30 to 33 meters based on terrain conditions. During a recent inspection, officials verified proper alignment and leveling of the bridge's pillars. The structure will measure 300 meters in length, with additional access and descent sections totaling more than 400 meters. It will feature four lanes, two for each direction, to accommodate traffic flow. According to the project plan, the bridge will benefit two million people and handle an average of 53,000 daily drivers. Juan Hugo de la Rosa, secretary of mobility, led the visit alongside Judá Levi Apolinar Trujillo, director general of Vialidad. De la Rosa emphasized the importance of the bridge within the state’s strategic initiative titled “2026, Year of Works in the State of Mexico.” He described the project as a priority aimed at improving regional connectivity. The bridge is designed to link the Peñón-Texcoco highway, the Oriental Perimeter, Oceanía Avenue, the Inner Circuit, and the Mexico City International Airport. Officials highlighted the collaborative effort among federal, state, municipal, and Mexico City governments to ensure smooth execution of the infrastructure project. The eastern region of the State of Mexico faces chronic traffic congestion due to its high population density and logistical role. The new bridge aims to alleviate this pressure by reducing travel times, easing key routes, and enhancing connectivity with the country’s main airport. De la Rosa explained that the infrastructure is intended to improve the efficiency and safety of daily commutes for residents of the state.
