Atletico Madrid has signed Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Sporting Lisbon on a five-year contract. The transfer is reported to be worth up to €40 million ($46 million) with additional €5 million in add-ons. Hjulmand, 27, played 141 matches and contributed 10 goals and 12 assists for Sporting since joining from Lecce in 2023. He led Sporting to two consecutive league titles and a Portuguese Cup during his time there. Hjulmand, who has made 27 appearances for Denmark since 2023, is noted for his defensive midfield skills, including ball-winning and tactical awareness. This signing comes after Atletico acquired Spanish left wing-back Alex Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen.
