He explained that talks did not reach that stage. “I have not been part of such discussions,” he said. Instead, Slot emphasized his current professional focus on club football. “At this stage in my career, I would prefer to be training with my players every day. Something that simply isn’t possible in the same way with the national team. For now, I believe club football still has a lot to offer me.” Despite his current preference for club work, Slot did not rule out the possibility of taking charge of the national team in the future. “It would be an honour to represent my country as a national team coach someday. However, this wasn’t the right time for me.” His comments reflect a common dilemma among top-tier coaches who must balance their ambitions between club and international levels. Among them is Robert Martínez, a 53-year-old Spanish specialist who previously coached Belgium and Portugal.
