Approve the creation of a commission to investigate the functioning of the Junaeb School Feeding Program between 2019 and 2024

The Chilean Chamber of Deputies has approved the creation of a special investigative commission (CEI) to examine the operation of the National School Feeding Program (PAE) managed by Junaeb between 2019 and 2024. The initiative was led by Deputy Fabián Ossandón and signed by 63 lawmakers, aiming to investigate oversight mechanisms, contract management, and the effective delivery of food rations. The commission will analyze contracts across all regions and verify the distribution of meals, following findings from internal audits by Junaeb and external audits by the Controller’s Office. Notably, an audit revealed that over $3.55 billion was paid to Soser S.A. in 2022 for 796,043 meals, but only 284 were delivered. Additionally, Junaeb’s 2023 internal audit indicated that the cost per meal exceeded $8,000, significantly higher than usual rates. The commission aims to propose sanctions against those misusing public funds.
