Other colors, high prices: Surface Pro and laptop now with Snapdragon X2

Microsoft has released updated versions of its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop devices featuring Qualcomm's second-generation Snapdragon X processors. The new models include variants with ten-core (Snapdragon X2 Plus) and twelve-core (Snapdragon X2 Elite) chips but exclude the top model with eighteen cores. Prices start at 1600 euros for the Surface Pro 13 with a ten-core processor and increase significantly with larger storage options and higher-end configurations.

Microsoft has recently introduced updated versions of its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop devices, both now powered by Qualcomm's second-generation Snapdragon X2 processors. These updates mark a significant shift in the company’s hardware lineup as it continues to push forward with its hybrid computing strategy. The new models come in two variants: one with ten cores (Snapdragon X2 Plus) and another with twelve cores (Snapdragon X2 Elite). However, the top-tier model featuring eighteen cores is not available in these new iterations. Despite this, the pricing remains notably high, reflecting ongoing challenges in the global memory market.

The Surface Pro 13, equipped with the ten-core Snapdragon processor and an LCD display, starts at a minimum price of €1,600. This version includes 16 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD, and features a silver-colored casing. For those willing to pay more—€1,700—the device becomes available in sand or black finishes, with a doubled SSD capacity. The blue option from the previous generation has been discontinued in the 2026 model.

Models with the twelve-core variant begin at €1,900, starting with a 512 GB SSD. These configurations include vibrant OLED displays. As storage increases, so does the cost significantly. With 24 GB of RAM, prices jump to €2,150 for the ten-core version and €2,400 for the twelve-core version. The top-tier models with either 32 or 64 GB of RAM reach €2,850 and €3,700 respectively, all featuring the twelve-core chip and exclusively silver casings. Neither a power adapter nor stylus or keyboard are included in the base price. The stylus and keyboard can be purchased separately for €130 and €160 respectively, while a bundle including both with a color-matched keyboard costs €310.

The smaller and more affordable Surface Pro 12 has not received an update and will continue to use the first generation of Snapdragon X processors.

For the Surface Laptop series, Microsoft has opted against offering models with 256 GB SSDs, beginning instead with 512 GB storage and 16 GB of RAM. The Surface Laptop 13.8 starts at €1,700 with the ten-core processor and €1,800 with the twelve-core variant. Available colors include jade green, silver, sand, and black. The larger Surface Laptop 15 requires an additional hundred euros compared to the 13.8-inch model and is only available in silver and black.

As configurations increase, the focus shifts. The Surface Laptop 13.8 with a ten-core processor offers options with 24 GB (€2,150) or 32 GB (€2,400) of RAM. Meanwhile, the twelve-core version jumps directly to a fully black top model with 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD priced at €2,750. The 15-inch model, on the other hand, only includes the ten-core processor in its base configuration, with higher-end variants using the twelve-core chip. Additionally, only the 15-inch model offers up to 64 GB of RAM. Configurations with a 1 TB SSD reach €3,800, and with a 2 TB SSD, they go up to €4,200.

The smaller and more affordable Surface Laptop 13 has not been updated and will remain with the first generation of Snapdragon X processors.

A notable feature highlighted by Microsoft for all three new models is the inclusion of haptic feedback in Windows 11. Both laptops provide this sensation through their haptic touchpads, while the Surface Pro delivers it when using Microsoft’s Slim Pen. All devices also come pre-installed with Affinity Professional software, which provides tactile responses during selected functions or actions.

According to Microsoft, the new Surface devices with Snapdragon X2 are intended primarily for private users. Business-oriented variants with Intel CPUs are planned separately. Models featuring Intel’s 2026 processor lineup, Core Ultra 300 (Panther Lake), have already launched recently. In practice, however, the distinction between business and consumer segments based on processor architecture is not clearly defined.
