Miss America stripped of her crown for racist posts: "I won't apologize"

Brittany Boltinhouse, the winner of the Miss North Carolina pageant, has refused to apologize for past racist remarks she posted online, stating she will fight the organization’s decision to revoke her title. The 23-year-old was crowned on June 28 but had her crown removed on August 5 after allegations surfaced regarding her social media history. She claims her rights were violated and plans to file a lawsuit against the organizers. The controversy erupted following public disclosure of Boltinhouse's previous posts, which included racially charged slurs. Despite being initially willing to address the issue, she later rejected the idea of apologizing, asserting that the removal of her title was unjustified. In an interview with Daily Mail, she stated, “My rights have been violated, and I will fight for myself.” She described herself as a “God-fearing person” and a “proud conservative,” emphasizing that her beliefs should not be grounds for discrimination. Thom Brodeur, president of the Miss USA organization, defended the decision, stating that the revocation was not based on a single incident but rather on her behavior over an extended period. He reiterated that the Miss USA platform does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, or speech that undermines anyone’s dignity. According to him, the organization aims to uphold values aligned with its mission. Boltinhouse maintains that the accusations against her are false and that the content in question does not constitute racism. Her attorney, Patrick Mincey, accused the organizers of spreading lies, calling the allegations “false and defamatory.” He argued that the posts in question were not racist and did not prove any form of bigotry. Mincey also noted that his client has audio evidence suggesting she was unfairly targeted due to her personal views. In response, Blaize Productions, the host of the Miss USA contest in North Carolina, issued a statement clarifying that the decision to remove Boltinhouse’s title was not related to her political or religious beliefs. They emphasized that contestants are allowed to hold and express such views. The organization explained that they reviewed available information, including publicly accessible materials, and conducted direct conversations with Boltinhouse before making their decision. They further stated that they consulted with national representatives to ensure consistency with organizational standards. The company highlighted that while participants are free to share their opinions, there are established behavioral guidelines that all candidates must adhere to. These rules include maintaining respectful conduct and avoiding language that could be considered offensive or discriminatory.
