All private schools, residential and junior colleges must participate in Haritha Vidyalaya rating initiative

All private schools, residential and junior colleges in Telangana have been mandated to take part in the Haritha Vidyalaya rating initiative, known as the Swachh Evam Haritha Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2026-27. This directive was issued by the state project director of Samagra Shiksha, who called upon educational institutions across the region to align with the national school assessment framework launched by the Ministry of Education. The initiative focuses on improving cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation, environmental sustainability, and creating a healthier learning environment. The SHVR program requires participating schools to register and log into the official portal at https://shvr.education.gov.in/. There, they must complete a self-assessment form based on specific criteria. These categories include water supply, toilet facilities, handwashing with soap, operational and maintenance standards, behavior change initiatives, and community engagement. Each category contributes to a maximum score of 125 points, which will determine the institution’s overall rating. Participation in the SHVR initiative is compulsory for all schools possessing a valid UDISE+ code. This ensures that the assessment covers a wide range of educational institutions, including both government and private entities. The program emphasizes the importance of maintaining high standards in infrastructure and hygiene, reflecting broader national goals for public health and environmental responsibility. In addition to the SHVR initiative, the directive includes provisions related to the Prashast 2.0 initiative, which involves district educational officers (DEOs). These officials are tasked with instructing field staff to conduct screenings for children with special needs. The goal is to identify students who may have potential disabilities and provide them with appropriate support. As part of this effort, all teachers are required to access the Prashast portal and undergo training to recognize early signs of disabilities during the screening process. The Prashast 2.0 initiative represents a dual focus on both academic and social welfare aspects of education. By integrating disability awareness into teacher training, the program seeks to create more inclusive classrooms.
