Ram Mandir donation row: Temple official Gopal Rao accused of 'playing politics' amid theft case

Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), recently launched an online membership campaign aimed at expanding the party's base and reinforcing its presence in Uttar Pradesh. This initiative comes at a time of heightened political activity, particularly around issues related to the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. While the SP's focus remains on building grassroots support, tensions have also flared within the administration of the Ram Mandir trust, where accusations of mismanagement and political interference have emerged.

The controversy centers around Gopal Rao, an administrative officer at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. According to Mahant Dinendra Das Maharaj, a prominent figure within the trust, Rao has been accused of complicating matters and deviating from traditional practices upheld by the trust's leadership. Mahant Dinendra Das Maharaj specifically claimed that Rao's actions were politically motivated and that the blame for the current situation rests entirely on him. His comments were made in response to growing scrutiny over the handling of donations intended for the Ram Mandir project.

The situation escalated when Akhilesh Yadav raised concerns about potential irregularities in the donations made to the temple. These allegations prompted a strong reaction from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which defended the ongoing investigation into the matter. The BJP emphasized that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) would conduct its probe impartially and that anyone found guilty would face appropriate legal consequences.

Prakash Gupta, the Office In-Charge of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, expressed concern over the impact of the investigation on individuals who might be wrongly implicated. He stated that while the guilty must be punished, innocent people should not suffer undue consequences. Gupta noted that some individuals had worked selflessly for the trust but could now find themselves entangled in the legal process. He explained that once an arrest is made, the accused must be taken into custody, and subsequent court proceedings—whether conducted in person or via video conferencing—would follow standard procedures.

Uttar Pradesh BJP President Pankaj Chaudhary dismissed the allegations made by Akhilesh Yadav, suggesting that the opposition was using the Ram Mandir issue for political gain. Chaudhary reiterated that the SIT investigation would remain fair and transparent, ensuring that justice is served without bias. Meanwhile, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra confirmed that an FIR had been filed and that eight individuals had been arrested in connection with the case. He assured that those found responsible would face strict legal action.

The ongoing investigation into the alleged financial irregularities has brought significant attention to the management of the Ram Mandir trust.
