Dawn Song, newly appointed vice-president of AI research at Meta Platforms, stated that the future development of artificial intelligence lies in creating 'AI agents' capable of performing economically valuable tasks across various real-world domains. Speaking during the World Economic Forum in Dalian, Song emphasized that the aim is not to replace humans but to enhance their ability to perform such tasks effectively. She highlighted her role in shaping Meta's AI safety and security initiatives, adding that she previously co-founded the enterprise AI safety startup Virtue AI. Additionally, UC Berkeley's Centre for Responsible, Decentralised Intelligence recently launched the Agents' Last Exam (ALE), a benchmark designed to evaluate AI agents' performance in over 1,500 economically valuable tasks spanning 55 industries.
