ADAC survey: This is how much more expensive it is to fill up at motorway service stations

The ADAC conducted a survey comparing fuel prices at highway service stations versus nearby road stations, revealing significant price differences across German states. On average, both diesel and super E10 were 33 cents cheaper per liter at nearby road stations. The largest price gaps were observed in Rhineland-Palatinate (up to 42 cents for E10), followed by Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. States like Hesse and Saxony-Anhalt had much smaller gaps, while Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern showed notably lower differences. In a separate poll of over 1,500 drivers, nearly a quarter said they would not detour off the autobahn for cheaper fuel, though most would do so if the difference was up to 20 cents. The study covered all 360 highway stations and around 14,000 road stations, analyzing prices from April 6th to 19th, excluding discounts but including the 12 o'clock pricing rule.

Getting Fuel on the Highway - A Surcharge to Expect

The article by heise online reports on findings from the ADAC's study regarding fuel price differences between highway service stations and regular roadside stations in Germany. It reveals that drivers who leave the autobahn to refuel pay significantly less per liter of gasoline, with an average difference of 33 cents per liter for both diesel and super E10. The study highlights that some highway stations charge up to 47 cents more for diesel and 44 cents more for E10 compared to off-autobahn prices, while others offer cheaper rates. Regional variations are noted, with states like Rhineland-Pfalz showing the largest price gaps. Despite these savings, many drivers still choose not to leave the autobahn, with nearly a quarter of respondents stating they do so regardless of cost differences.
