250,000 take Cappadocia balloon rides in first half

Between January and June 2026, over 256,000 tourists participated in hot air balloon tours in Cappadocia, Turkey, despite significant weather disruptions. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation reported that balloon operations were restricted to 90 days due to heavy rain and strong winds, compared to the typical 220 days per year. Although flight days were reduced, passenger numbers rose sharply, increasing from around 21,000 in January to over 73,000 in June. The sector operates 160 balloons managed by 27 companies within the UNESCO World Heritage site. Industry representatives noted that while weather impacted flight schedules, the experience remains highly popular among tourists, driven by both the scenic views and social media exposure.
