Gujarat police reunite missing Maharashtra woman with family

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, engaged in separate phone calls with the chief ministers of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Jammu and Kashmir to discuss the ongoing rain-related challenges in these states. During the conversations, he assured the state leaders of the central government's commitment to provide all necessary support to mitigate the impact of the monsoon season. The discussions reportedly focused on coordinating efforts to manage flood risks, ensure infrastructure resilience, and safeguard public safety amid erratic weather patterns. The rain-induced crisis has prompted heightened activity across several regions. In Gujarat, a notable incident unfolded when a woman with a mental health condition was located after nearly nine months of being missing. The woman was discovered on June 29 while walking alone along the Lathi, Chavand Road in the Amreli district. A routine night patrol conducted by the Lathi police resulted in her identification. She was unable to communicate her name or address and exhibited signs of mental distress. Officers noted that she repeatedly mentioned the term “Talasari,” which led them to investigate its significance. Upon further inquiry, the police determined that “Talasari” refers to a specific taluka and municipal council in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. By cross-referencing this information on Google Maps, the officers pinpointed the location and presented images of the area to the woman. Her recognition of the images through gestures helped confirm her origin. The Lathi police then coordinated with the Palghar police control room to obtain contact details for the local authorities. Through this process, the woman’s family was successfully identified, with her father, Shankarbhai Vanshyabhai Valvi, confirming her identity as Jagrutiben. Jagrutiben had disappeared approximately nine months prior without notifying her family. Despite the absence of a formal missing persons report, the police managed to locate her and facilitate her return. Following verification of her identity, she was temporarily housed at the Sakhi One Stop Centre in Amreli before being reunited with her family on July 1. The police emphasized their dedication to resolving such cases, particularly highlighting their efforts under Operation Milap, which has enabled the recovery of 100 children and 314 adults since 2025. Meanwhile, another tragic incident occurred in Maharashtra due to the adverse weather conditions. A couple and two of their children were electrocuted while attempting to save each other following a power outage triggered by heavy rainfall. The incident took place in a residential area where a live wire outside the house contributed to the fatal accident. Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the electrical fault, assess whether any negligence played a role, and evaluate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. These developments underscore the complex interplay between natural disasters and human vulnerability, especially in regions prone to extreme weather. As the monsoon season continues, officials remain vigilant in addressing both immediate emergencies and long-term preparedness strategies.
