15 Pastors and Prophets Under SIU Probe Over Alleged Fraudulent Immigration Benefits, Says Schreiber

Fifteen religious leaders, including pastors and prophets, are under investigation by South Africa's Special Investigating Unit (SIU) for alleged fraudulent acquisition of immigration benefits such as visas and permanent residency. The findings were disclosed by Home Affairs Minister Dr Leon Schreiber in a parliamentary reply, revealing that eight cases have been referred to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for potential prosecution. The SIU conducted the probe under Proclamation No. 154 of 2024 and categorized all 15 individuals under the broad category of 'religious leaders,' without distinguishing between foreign religious leaders, pastors, or prophets. Of the 15 cases, 10 have been finalized, with eight forwarded to the NPA and two closed due to satisfactory resolution. Five investigations remain active.
