A driver of a Nissan Murano has been placed under suspicion for causing a fatal traffic accident involving 12 deaths and six injuries. The incident occurred on July 4, 2026, on the Odessa-Melitopol-Novazovsk highway near the village of Schaslyve in Mykolaiv Oblast. According to investigators, the suspect was driving in the direction of Mykolaiv from Odessa and attempted an overtaking maneuver despite heavy traffic and without ensuring safety. This led to a collision with a Mercedes-Benz microbus traveling in the opposite direction. The microbus veered onto the shoulder, lost control, rolled over, and collided with a Volvo truck. The Nissan driver continued driving before being detained by law enforcement. The case is now being investigated under Article 286 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which carries a mandatory prison sentence of five to ten years and a ban on driving for up to three years.
