Eleven NATO allies, including Romania, announced at the NATO Defense Industry Forum during the Ankara Summit the joint acquisition of Saab GlobalEye surveillance aircraft. These planes will replace parts of NATO’s aging Boeing E-3 fleet and form the new NATO Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS). The GlobalEye system offers advanced multi-domain surveillance capabilities, detecting threats such as drone swarms, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. The project highlights strong transatlantic industrial cooperation led by European and Canadian industries with significant contributions from American companies.
