The study also noted that organic free-range farming had higher rates of water eutrophication, acidification, land use, and bird mortality. While the research highlights important trade-offs between animal welfare and environmental impact, it acknowledges limitations, including outdated data from 2009-2010 and exclusion of factors like pesticide use and biodiversity. Researchers suggest that while organic systems are often seen as more ethical, they may have higher environmental costs.
