August 1 Where fireworks and drone shows still take place

Across Switzerland, with the exception of parts of the Engadin region, a firework and open flame ban has been in place due to prolonged dry conditions. However, despite this restriction, several locations have planned official fireworks displays for Swiss National Day on August 1st. These events will primarily take place on lakes and rivers using pontoon platforms. Additionally, some communities are opting for drone shows, light displays, and water performances instead of traditional fireworks. The first fireworks were set for July 31st in Flüelen, Uri, as part of the Lake Festival. The approved large-scale fireworks will be launched at 10:30 PM on Lake Urner. In Porrentruy, Jura, a fireworks display was scheduled for the same time at Ferme du Château. On August 1st, fireworks and high-altitude fires are planned in multiple areas. In Brienz, Bern, the fireworks over Lake Brienz will begin at 9:50 PM at the Cholplatz, contingent upon favorable weather conditions. In Gunten, Bern, two fireworks are planned above Lake Thun. The first will be launched at 9:50 PM near Gunten. In Iseltwald, Bern, the fireworks over Lake Brienz will commence at 9:45 PM between Seeburg and Inseli. In Oberhofen and Hilterfingen, Bern, the second fireworks show will follow at 10:15 PM between these two towns. In Murten, Fribourg, the fireworks over Lake Murten will start at 10:15 PM. In Scuol, Grisons, the municipality plans high-altitude fires at several locations, Ardez, Ftan, Guarda, Scuol, Sent, and Tarasp, at 9:00 PM on National Day. This area of Graubünden currently does not have an absolute fire ban. In Neuenburg, Neuchâtel, the fireworks over the lake will begin at 10:15 PM. In Sarnen, Obwalden, the fireworks over Lake Sarner will start at 10:00 PM. In Brunnen, Schwyz, the fireworks over Lake Lucerne will occur during the village festival, beginning between 10:00 PM and 10:15 PM. In Ascona, Ticino, the Lido di Ascona will host a beach party featuring a DJ set and entertainment, culminating in a fireworks display synchronized with music at 10:30 PM. In Lugano, Ticino, the “Sinfonia di luce” fireworks spectacle will begin at 10:30 PM over Lake Lugano. In Lausanne, Vaud, the traditional fireworks at Ouchy will be launched between 9:45 PM and 10:00 PM on the lake. In Meilen, Zurich, the federal celebration begins in the morning, with fireworks over Lake Zurich starting at 10:30 PM. In Stäfa, Zurich, the launch will occur at 10:15 PM at the height of the Stäfner Stein. Fireworks will be fired approximately 300 meters away from the shore via pontoons on the lake. In Rüschlikon, Zurich, fireworks will be launched at 9:50 PM. The municipality warns that the canton could revoke the permit shortly before the event, particularly in cases of strong wind or storm. In Horgen, Zurich, the community invites visitors to the Parkbad Seerose, where fireworks will be launched on the lake at 10:00 PM. Here too, the event might be canceled if there is heavy wave action or wind. Drone, light, and water shows are also planned for August 1st. In Interlaken, Bern, the “Interlaken Sky Magic” drone show will begin at 10:00 PM on the Höhematte. In Merligen, Bern, thousands of lotus lanterns will float on Lake Thun between 8:00 PM and midnight. In Neuenegg, Bern, the community replaces the traditional high-altitude fire with a water fireworks display. In Chur, Grisons, around 200 drones will ascend into the sky at 10:00 PM on the Oberen Au. In Ascona, Ticino, a performance of the “dancing fountains” will take place on July 31st at 10:00 PM. They will also be visible on August 1st at 9:45 PM and 11:00 PM on the Lungolago Giuseppe Motta. In Crans-Montana, Valais, the “Lac en scène” show will feature fountains, lasers, a water screen, and lights on Lake Grenon. Shows will begin at 9:50 PM, 10:20 PM, 10:50 PM, and 11:20 PM.
