1,082 beds, 300 ICU beds, 15 major OTs: MCR TIMS Sanathnagar in Hyderabad set to transform Telangana’s public healthcare

The Marri Chenna Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (MCR TIMS) Sanathnagar in Hyderabad is poised to become the largest tertiary-care government hospital in Telangana since the state's formation in 2014. Scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday, August 17, 2026, the facility marks a significant leap forward in the region's public healthcare infrastructure. With a total of 1,082 beds, including 300 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, the hospital is designed to serve as a Centre of Excellence for cardiac, renal, transplant and trauma care. Construction of the hospital began on February 8, 2023, following the awarding of the project to Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd. (MEIL). The initial phase saw over ₹120.89 crore invested by December 7, 2023, with the project reporting 13.14% progress in both physical and financial terms. The remaining work was completed in subsequent months, leading to the current stage of readiness for operation. The hospital spans 53.30 acres, featuring a built-up area of 11.68 lakh square feet and a total project cost of ₹1,126 crore. The MCR TIMS Sanathnagar is structured into three main blocks: the emergency block, outpatient block, and inpatient block. The emergency section includes 388 beds, 15 major operating theatres, and specialized trauma and neurocritical care units. The outpatient block offers 350 beds alongside diagnostic and treatment facilities such as cath labs, endoscopy and bronchoscopy rooms, and radiation oncology services. The inpatient block accommodates 300 beds, supporting a wide range of medical specialties. Key areas of focus for the hospital include cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, nephrology, urology, dialysis, organ transplantation, gastroenterology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and general surgery. It aims to provide comprehensive care across 28 departments, spanning both basic and super-specialties, along with diagnostic and supportive services. Additional departments such as medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, interventional radiology, transfusion medicine, and haematology are planned for future inclusion. To ensure the smooth functioning of the hospital, the government has allocated 2,360 positions, comprising 1,633 medical roles, 355 allied health professional posts, and 372 non-medical staff positions. All necessary licenses and approvals, including fire safety clearance, occupancy certification, environmental compliance, drug and pharmacy permits, clinical establishment authorization, and blood bank accreditation, have been obtained by the Health Department. In addition to serving local populations across Hyderabad and Telangana, the hospital is being developed as a hub for medical tourism, offering dedicated facilities and accommodations tailored for international patients. This strategic move underscores the state government's commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality while promoting economic growth through medical tourism.
