Ownership & classification
Founded: 1871
Ownership
Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten has, since 1 January 2003, been published by JP/Politikens Hus A/S, owned in equal halves by Jyllands-Posten Holding A/S and A/S Politiken Holding. The sole shareholder of Jyllands-Posten Holding is the private Jyllands-Postens Fond (the Jyllands-Posten Foundation), established in 1971 to safeguard the paper's political and editorial independence. The newspaper was founded in 1871 in Aarhus.
Funding
Financed commercially through subscriptions and a digital paywall, single-copy print sales and advertising, within the JP/Politikens Hus group. The foundation structure is designed to reinvest in and protect the title rather than to subsidise it politically.
Affiliation & stance
Jyllands-Posten holds a conservative, center-right and economically liberal editorial stance and has been formally independent of any party. Because it is controlled by an independent private foundation with an explicit mandate of editorial independence and no party or state control, it is classified INDEPENDENT.
