As part of this deal, Lebanese military forces would take control of previously occupied territories and dismantle weapons and infrastructure linked to Hezbollah. However, Hezbollah has not formally endorsed the plan, raising concerns among observers about its feasibility. Lebanese soldiers began moving into Froun on Monday, signaling the start of the operation. Israeli forces transferred control of Sawtar al-Gharbija to Lebanese troops the following day. Despite these developments, local residents remain skeptical about the intentions behind the initiative. They claim their communities were not occupied but rather subjected to Israeli bombardment. Security sources in Lebanon noted that Israeli forces did not maintain permanent bases in Sawtar al-Gharbija, instead entering and exiting the area as needed. If successful, the pilot zones could serve as a model for broader territorial withdrawals, allowing Israel to reduce its presence in the region. However, challenges persist. Lebanese military officials stated that it is too soon to enter Sawtar al-Gharbija, citing the need to secure the area before establishing a foothold. Israeli forces reportedly opened fire during the troop movement, complicating security arrangements. Meanwhile, President of Lebanon Joseph Aoun visited the United States, where he will meet with former president Donald Trump. This marks the first visit by a Lebanese head of state to the White House since 2009. Discussions are expected to focus on advancing lasting peace in the region. Efforts to de-escalate tensions continue beyond the immediate conflict, with countries such as Qatar and Egypt also engaging in diplomatic initiatives to ease hostilities.
