A fire broke out in the area of Agios Menas in Chalcis, Euboea, near the town of Chalcis, on July 5, 2026, at around noon. The blaze occurred in an area with low vegetation and was quickly contained by firefighters who arrived promptly. At approximately 3 PM, authorities issued an alert via the 112 emergency number to residents in the area, advising them to remain prepared and follow instructions. Firefighters deployed 40 personnel, supported by two ground teams from the 4th and 20th Special Forest Operations Units, along with nine firefighting vehicles. From the air, four aircraft and two helicopters conducted water drops to limit the spread of the fire. Support was also provided by hydrofitters and construction machinery from the Regional Directorate of Sterea Ellada. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, with a specialized arson investigation team from Euboea arriving at the scene. Throughout the incident, the Emergency Response Center (ΕΣΚΕΔΙΚ) continuously monitored the situation using drone footage from optical and thermal cameras.
