Experts from the Electronic Faculty in Niš have completed a year-long project digitizing the cultural heritage of Niš and its surrounding areas, with special focus on the Niš Fortress and the ancient site of Medijana. The digital reconstruction allows users to experience these locations in virtual reality through specialized equipment or via the website Tabula Pentigeriana. The project involved taking over 7,000 photographs and using advanced technology called 'gaussian splatting' to create detailed 3D models. Virtual avatars guide users through the sites, providing explanations similar to those of a tour guide. The initiative was supported by the European Union and the city of Niš, aiming to enhance tourism and showcase local heritage. Partnerships with nearby municipalities such as Gadžin Han, Svrljig, and Merošina were also established as part of the project.
