Live-in, woman who turned to be a man, stalking: Story of a Rajkot murder

In the western Indian state of Gujarat, a tragic incident unfolded that initially appeared to be a suicide but was later revealed as a murder. The victim, Ram Bharwad, a 26-year-old man from Gundala village in Gondal taluka, died on June 30. His parents, Babubhai Bambva and Manishaben Bambva, were subsequently arrested by authorities after an autopsy ruled out suicide and confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation. This revelation has sparked significant public attention and legal proceedings, as the case now falls under multiple criminal charges including murder and causing grievous harm with acid.

According to reports, the incident began with a family dispute centered around Ram's drinking habits. During an altercation, his parents allegedly forced him to consume acid, which led to severe injury. Following this act, they reportedly strangled him. The police, upon receiving information about the suspicious nature of the death, conducted an autopsy, which contradicted the initial claim of suicide. As a result, the parents were taken into custody on Friday, June 27, and interrogated. Their admission to the crime prompted their daughter-in-law to file a formal complaint against them, leading to the registration of a case under Sections 103(1), 124, and 54 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Meanwhile, another disturbing case emerged in the same district, involving a complex identity deception. A 20-year-old man named Piyush Kumar Kharwar from Uttar Pradesh was arrested for allegedly murdering a man who had posed as a woman to pursue a romantic relationship. The body of the deceased, identified as Chandan Kumar, was discovered on June 25 near railway tracks in rural Rajkot, dressed in women's clothing. Initially presumed to be an accident due to the presence of severe head injuries, the police initiated a murder investigation after the post-mortem results indicated foul play.

Through the use of CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and human intelligence, investigators traced the origins of the relationship back to a connection made on social media. Chandan Kumar, who used the names "Nisha Kumar" on Facebook and "Poonam" on Instagram, established a relationship with Piyush, claiming to be female. However, Piyush eventually uncovered the truth when he observed Chandan shaving, realizing that the person he had been dating was actually a man seeking a same-sex relationship. Tensions escalated as Piyush sought to terminate the relationship, while Chandan continued to pursue him despite his relocation to various cities for work.

On June 21, a confrontation occurred at a factory in Padvala village, where Piyush allegedly assaulted Chandan with large stones before attempting to hide the body under rocks. The arrest of Piyush followed, and a case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the circumstances surrounding both cases.
