The Slovenian parliamentary commission overseeing intelligence and security services, known as Knovs, has requested documents related to the security assessment of a close friend of President Nataša Pirc Musar and the Israeli embassy. According to statements made by the chairperson of the commission, Janja Sluga, a member of the Freedom party, the commission received two forms assessing security risks associated with the process of acquiring citizenship for the president's friend, Viktorija Krivolucka. However, these documents are deemed insufficient for a comprehensive evaluation of the situation. Sluga stated in a media interview that they have not yet received other essential documentation typically included in decisions regarding the acquisition of Slovenian citizenship. She emphasized that the commission will continue its session once the remaining documents are received from the government, which she estimates could happen by the end of next week. In addition to the documents concerning Krivolucka’s naturalization, Knovs has also decided to request all documentation from the Slovenian Intelligence and Security Agency (Sova) related to potential Russian and Israeli influences on Slovenia’s sovereignty and national security over the past four years. The commission has further requested all documentation from the General Police Directorate that was submitted to the relevant prosecution authorities in connection with the Black Cube case. Members of the commission have also resolved to ask both Sova and the defense ministry’s intelligence and security service to provide all information gathered and evaluated regarding the planned establishment of the Israeli embassy, including any potential exchange of data aimed at identifying possible security threats. According to Sluga, the members of Knovs reached these conclusions unanimously following discussions prompted by a report presented by Sova director Janez Stušek. Stušek marked the data as classified, stating that it should not be disclosed to the public. Despite this, the commission members requested a written report detailing today’s presentation and sought answers to questions raised during the meeting, some of which were not fully addressed. When asked whether the commission can conclude based on today’s findings that there were any foreign state influences, Sluga referred to Stušek’s comments, noting that while such influences always exist, the difference lies in whether they affect voters, elections, or involve genuine security threats. The session of Knovs had been scheduled several days earlier, but the chairperson postponed it just hours before it was set to begin. At the time, she explained that the government had not yet provided the required documents regarding the extraordinary naturalization of the president’s friend, Krivolucka. The commission’s actions reflect growing scrutiny into potential foreign interference in domestic affairs, particularly involving high-profile individuals connected to the presidency. The focus on the Israeli embassy and the broader context of intelligence assessments underscores concerns about external actors potentially influencing national security and political processes.
