Mandal was returning home in his Maruti Brezza when his car allegedly brushed against another vehicle. This led to a confrontation, during which the occupants of the other car chased Mandal, forced him to stop, and subjected him to physical assault. In an effort to escape, Mandal attempted to cross the road, where he was hit by an SUV.

Both the individuals involved in the initial altercation and the SUV driver fled the scene. Upon arriving at the location, police transported Mandal to Jaipuria Hospital, where he was declared dead. His family filed a formal complaint on Friday, revealing that Mandal, a computer designer who had recently opened a restaurant in Narayan Vihar, had left his establishment for home around 11 p.m. on Thursday. Following the incident, the body was moved to the hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Once the autopsy was completed, the body was returned to the family.
