The Indonesian government has activated a network of over 27,000 Warung Pangan partners to stabilize food prices, particularly within traditional markets. Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Hanif Faisol Nurofiq highlighted the initiative during the launch of the ID FOOD Warung Pangan app at Tebet Timur Market in Jakarta. He described the program as a strategic move to leverage existing trade infrastructure across the country. The Warung Pangan platform was developed by PT Perusahaan Perdagangan Indonesia (PPI) in partnership with state-owned food clusters and supplier networks. It functions as a mobile application accessible via both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Through this app, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) can engage in buying and selling food products directly to consumers. As of now, the service operates in 108 cities nationwide, involving 28,438 partners who collectively offer 425 different types of food items. Nurofiq stated that the government aims to reduce reliance on temporary low-cost markets by optimizing the current Warung Pangan network. He emphasized that the initiative addresses the challenge faced by many traditional markets, which often lack direct access to industrial suppliers and large distributors. By expanding the reach of ID FOOD’s Warung Pangan, the government hopes to ensure consistent availability of essential foodstuffs at stable prices. ID FOOD President Director Ghimoyo confirmed that reinforcing the Warung Pangan network aligns with the company’s mission to maintain price stability, especially concerning non-subsidized goods. He outlined plans to enhance cooperation with vendors in traditional markets to guarantee the distribution of food products at competitive rates. Partners in the Warung Pangan system will be supplied at fixed wholesale prices, with an obligation to sell them to the public at the highest retail price (HET). This approach is intended to sustain food availability while directly benefiting communities through more predictable pricing structures. The expansion of the Warung Pangan initiative comes amid broader efforts by the Indonesian government to manage food inflation effectively. Related developments include the recent launch of a digital application by ID FOOD aimed at distributing cooking oil, reflecting a growing emphasis on technology-driven solutions for food security challenges.
