The 2027 edition was originally scheduled to run from February 3 to 21. Soulsby noted that while the council could not assume the company's debts, it intended to work with local promoters and venues to organise an interim festival, paving the way for a long-term solution. It is estimated that over £100,000 in unpaid fees remains outstanding, affecting numerous comedians, promoters, and venues. This situation has drawn criticism from Equity, the performers' union, which called the circumstances "grossly unfair." Despite this, Equity has managed to secure payments for some of the unpaid comedians, according to a spokesperson named Michael Day. He stressed that the success of the festival relies heavily on the efforts of these performers and that their lack of payment is unjust. In response to the cancellation, former staff members of the Leicester Comedy Festival released a statement expressing their shock and frustration. They claimed they were left uninformed and unpaid during the final months leading up to the insolvency announcement.
